The Hurley Edit

Style inspiration & hair wisdom from our team

At The Hurley Co, what happens in the chair is only part of the story.

Yes, it’s where the transformations happen—the fresh cuts, dimensional color, confidence-boosting moments. But behind every service is something bigger: education, intention, and a standard that we don’t compromise on.

The Hurley Edit is where we take you beyond the appointment.

This is where we talk about the why behind what we do. From hair health and product knowledge to real conversations about beauty, maintenance, and expectations—we’re giving you the inside look.

The kind of insight you don’t always get during a busy salon visit, but deserve to have.

Whether you’re sitting in our chair every 6 weeks or just found us online, this space is for you. It’s for clients who want to understand their hair, stylists who want to grow, and anyone who believes beauty should feel as good as it looks.

Think of this as an extension of the chair—just without the cape.

Permanent makeup is everywhere right now. Permanent makeup is having a moment — brows, lips, liner, even scalp micropigmentation. The results can be genuinely life-changing, but this isn't your average beauty appointment. It's an investment in your face, and that means doing your homework first. So, what exactly is PMU? Permanent makeup (PMU) is a form of cosmetic tattooing designed to enhance your natural features. Think fuller brows, more defined eyes, balanced lips, or the appearance of thicker hair. Done well, it should look soft and effortless — like you, just polished. Not all PMU is created equal. This is the part that doesn't get talked about enough. There's a significant difference between a skilled PMU artist and someone simply chasing trends, and we see corrective work regularly that proves it. A great artist isn't just picking up whatever technique is popular right now — they're looking at your face shape, skin type, natural coloring, and how the pigment will evolve over time. Trends fade. Your face doesn't. Is permanent makeup actually permanent? Despite the name, PMU is considered semi-permanent. The pigments are designed to fade gradually over time, which is actually a good thing — it allows for adjustments as trends evolve and your face changes naturally with age. Mapping matters more than most people realize. Before anything touches your skin, your artist should be carefully measuring and mapping your features. This step is what creates symmetry, balance, and a result that actually fits you. If it feels rushed or glossed over, take that as a sign to slow down and ask questions. Healing is part of the process — not a problem. What you see on day one is not your final result. PMU will appear darker initially, may go through a light flaking phase, and then soften significantly over the following weeks. A perfecting session is often needed to fine-tune the look. This is completely normal and expected. Is it worth it? For the right person, absolutely. If you're filling in your brows every morning, dealing with uneven features, or simply want to streamline your routine, PMU can be a total game changer — as long as it's done with intention and the right approach. At The Hurley Co, our philosophy is simple: PMU should enhance you, not change you. We're not here to create "perfect" features — we're here to give you confidence without the daily effort. Every service is fully customized, designed to look natural, and built to last. This isn't a service to bargain shop. It's a service to trust someone with. Do your research, ask the right questions, and choose quality. Your future self will thank you every single day.
